Horticultural lighting allows us to grow plants indoors at any time and in any climate. Proper spectrum engineering of these lights allows for faster growth, higher yields, and improved plant quality. Compared to conventional HPS (high-pressure sodium) and MH (metal halide) lights, LED-based lights are more efficient and cost-effective for horticultural applications thanks to their much lower energy consumption, longer lifespan, and availability of spectrum engineering.
Samsung has introduced white and red LEDs for its horticultural lighting series, which are best suited for plant cultivation. Traditionally, blue and red lights have been primarily used for horticultural lighting, as plants are known to absorb blue and red light best. Other wavelengths, such as green, have received little attention. However, Samsung insists, from different perspectives, that various wavelengths are actually important for the growth of the entire plant. This has been supported by numerous internal and external experimental studies.
After extensive research on the topic, Samsung has determined that a broad white spectrum with a select red spectrum produces better results and allows for lower overall costs, in most cases. Samsung's broad white LED spectrum, which includes blue, green, yellow, and specific red LED wavelengths (660 nm and 730 nm), can provide optimal lighting for better plant growth.
Samsung's new horticulture lineup features industry-leading high-efficacy "White LEDs" and complementary "Red LEDs" with special red wavelengths such as "660nm Deep Red LEDs" and "730nm Far Red LEDs," covering the spectrum that cannot be fully covered by white LED lighting, but is important for plant growth.
Overall, Samsung Horticulture LED solutions have been carefully designed to deliver excellent leading-edge performance (PPF, PPF/W) with excellent resistance to heat, humidity, and chemicals.
They are highly resistant to the harsh horticultural environment, especially high temperatures and humidity, as well as exposure to chemicals such as sulfur from fertilizers. Samsung's horticultural LED solutions thrive in any of these conditions and offer the market proven levels of performance and reliability.
